Another ill thought plan to please the Greeny Meanies.. Having proposed to ban I.C.E vehicles in 2030 the government is well behind with the national roll out -plan for Chargers in their thousands. More importantly for those who don't want to swill and eat motorway fare all day The Xtra Fast chargers have been installed in Service areas to get people on their way. Tesla have installed 6 at a considerable cost. They are sitting idle because they will crash the National Grid along with the thousand so others waiting to be connected. Our National Power Grid just can't cope with the extra power surge and blackouts are expected to occur as a result. It is estimated it will need the power of 6 Hinkley Power plants to satisfy the loading of the Grid at a cost of £30 million. Can we really afford this white elephant. This country will be bankrupted and we will go back to the dark ages. Absolute madness

Never convinced we had the capacity for putting vehicles on electricity. Now, having spent loads of public money on pushing that option, many further issues arise. I seriously think you understand the power required to charge n million or so batteries compared to the fewer amount of milk floats used by dairies.
The reason there are no current shortages and no blackout is because the charging units cannot be switched on in case they do so. It seems the infrastructure is not currently sufficiently big enough to handle the extra load imposed on it.

it's not just the new (and as yet uncommissioned) chargers that are an issue, whoever is responsible for the chargers that are out there appear to be singularly unable to keep them working for any meaningful length of time - on a recent trip to Scotland, a friend found that of the bank of 6 chargers at a particular M6 service area, only one was actually usable (and it had a queue of 4 other vehicles)

What a load of codswallap. Hundreds of thousand charge successfully every night. There would be an outcry if people were buying expensive battery run cars that can’t be recharged.
The infrastructure needs to be vastly improved. But the more people with EV wanting to buy a charge, the more it will become available.
