I have never had a problem buying online with my credit cards. Now you have to recieve a passcode to finalise it Sent to your phone number, a change from the government I'm told. I'm all for extra security but I never get the phone message. My phone number is correct on my accounts. I tried 3 different cards yesterday and all three said they'd sent a passcode, I never got any of them. I'm at a l9ss. I rang my credit card ppl and they said I had to contact who I was buying off. Still no word back from them. Anyone having this problem or know how to fix it ?

Do you get SMS from other people, tamaris? I can't imagine what the problem is, but get a friend to send you a message as a test
Is your phone set to block unknown senders?
Try buying with someone else and see if it works with them.
It's not a change from the goverment as such two two factor authentication is common now.
Are you sure your number is right on the system and not set to block unknown nos
It is a legal requirement, under the Strong Customer Authentication Rules
yes but it dosnt say it has to be done this way.

"We expect firms to develop SCA solutions that work for all groups of consumers.

This means that you may need to provide several different methods of authentication for your customers. This includes methods that don’t rely on mobile phones, to cater for consumers who don’t have, or don’t want to use, a mobile phone. "

tamaris could ask to try a different way eg email or home landline number if the mobile no dont work.
What about folk who don't have a phone ?
There are other options, OG - an authenticator app on your computer is one option
see above... but I bet most people who order online have a phone, but maybe not a smartphone... i'm not if or how this works on an old nokia
Ah I see bobbin mentions that.

Yeah it's all a pain in the neck. The normal citizen gets the hassle, the bad guys always seem to find ways around it.
true... even my email provider needs to send me a phone verafication code before I can sign in...its a pain
1) Can other people text you?
2) does the number on your accounts include the International code? If so is it in the correct format? eg 07nnn 123456 becomes 00 44 7nnn 123456 or sometimes written +44 7nnn 123456.
3) Have you set up your phone to block unknown numbers?
Who is your email provider, bob? I like that idea
sky email barry.
