For Those Of You Who Work, Is Your Boss Paying For Your Christmas 'Do'?

We work for bosses who are loaded, yet we (admin staff) have to pay £25 each for our 'do'.  We're not sure that we should. 

Anyway, what is your workplace doing for Christmas?

Hi, Hazlinny.  It's for a meal and drinks.  You see, each of us has a boss each so it's not like one boss has to pay out for 20 of us, for example.  It's only £25 for his secretary.  If you get me?

My last job was with a small local charity for 11-12 years. Our 'do' was a lunch at a higher end pub, hotel or restaurant...we never paid. I guess it was our Christmas bonus as they were few and far between.

Do people even get bonuses these days?

Pasta - I think it depends who you work for - The civil service departments I worked for have to pay for their own parties and don't get a bonus.

i also thought you were a part time agency worker?  if so Your boss is either the agency, or you.  The people you work under/with on a day to day basis are your colleagues.  Would you expect colleagues to pay for your dinner?

i have NEVER (worked from 16; now in my 50s) had a free xmas meal from my work, but i have been to several when my husband worked for IBM

All the nicks,traffic garages and departments I have worked in have always had a Christmas party. I paid into their Social Club fund each month and they organised and paid for  the party I once had three Turkey dinners before Christmas day and the family ate  Beef rib roast. My mother was not best pleased.😩

No. One of my colleagues has organised an evening out for £49 per head ( not going as the menu doesn't look that great). Our well paid bosses cobble together to buy as a slice of pizza each....

The charity that I work for supplies us with free tea coffee and biscuits all year round.  They also pay for a Christmas meal (I think it is about £20, might be more).

The only downside is that it is voluntary work and we don't get paid.

My boss is a parsimonious old witch who will take the view that Christmas parties are a waste of time and money and get in the way of all the last minute stuff that people MUST have before 24 December, but in reality will not look at until 3 Jan.

As I am self-employed, I shall give myself a good talking to later.

we used to have departmental Xmas lunches paid for by the company (as we mostly worked nights it was no good having evening parties).

But if you don't like paying £25 each can you organise something cheaper off your own bats?

Hi Hazlinny.  I've taken youngmafbog's advice or opinion rather and not go.  It's a lot of money (for me anyway).  I'll go out with my own girlies instead outside of work.  

Thank you all again.  I've found it a most interesting read!  I liked the McDonald's tip!!  Maybe they'll have a festive menu.
