It should be fairly easy to get a 4x salary mortgage, which would mean he could buy a property valued at a shade under half a million – but I suppose if he told the mortgage broker that within less than a year he will be thrown out of his job, and has no discernable abilities that would make him employable by anyone but McDondal’s, I can understand his position.

"Mr Freeman, who spent more than a decade in the life sciences and technology sectors before entering Parliament, will be able to make more money outside of government."

Surely mortgage providers want to see dome sort of job security.

I thought an MPs salary was  about £86,500 ? The extra  up to £118,300 for staff, offices, expenditure etc.

He was paid more because he was a government minister.
