If you leave your job this tax year you will most likely be entitled to a tax refund.

Not sure about timing - you may have to wait for next tax year or you may be able to get it back weekly or monthly until the end of the tax year.

I'm not sure you will get it automatically - you may have to claim it. Talk to your tax office, they should be able to tell you how to go about it.
For the tax year 2005/6 you will be able to apply to get the money back after 6th April 2006. You apply to your local tax office using a form you casn download off the IR website. They may want your P45 sent in as well. It took my son about 3 weeks to get the money back
as mentioned above, you may be a due a tax refund for the current tax year, and if you are definitely not going to be earning anything or claiming benefits until April, you can claim a refund straight away by contacting your tax office and telling them this. However, if you are claiming a benefit such as Job Seekers Allowance you will have to wait until the end of the tax year to claim as buildersmate says, because most benefits are taxable.
