I don't see that it makes any difference.  If you are interested/curious you can easily see the last time an ABers device was logged in to AB.

My thoughts exactly, barry.

The hibernatory status of an Answerbank account is much like that tree falling in the forest, you have to be there.

Or not, as the case may be.

how many different status are there ?

does last activity mean  when they last logged in ?

Yes.  But if anyone opens my browser on my PC it automatically logs in to AB.  Doesn't mean I logged in

Question Author

if it is just to add up active users for advertising do the banned users count as users ?

-- answer removed --

Oh no, johnny, when banned they're carted off to the farm where old dogs go and that's that.

Except maybe at Easter when odd things take place with the dead.

> They will never be made dormant because those active users, even if they haven't posted for years or have passed away, are counted as users when calculating footfall to attract advertisers.

Wrong. For a start, if you're posting then you're not even seeing any adverts. And also, the ads for non-members are paid based on actual ads being viewed. Finally, a few days ago, AB Editor posted the stats very transparently, for all to see including advertisers:

However, to give you a better idea... Here's the number of users who have been 'Active' - as in signed in - in:
The last 30 days: 1461
The last 90 days: 2767
The last 6 months: 4237
The last year: 6377

Auntypoll is quite right on why it won't happen and I agree with you Johnny. There should be a dormant feature. We used to get happy birthday threads for people who hadn't posted for 3 or 4 years and then new members who couldn't register a name because it was already taken, sometimes by members who hadn't posted in like 15 years plus.

Yes Ellipsis those figures were shown to us but also shortly before we were told there were in the region of a quarter of a million members.

So put two and two together and what do you come up with?

Desmond?

"when banned they're carted off to the farm where old dogs go"
Nah, they're kept on the books to keep the numbers up and awarded badges for "services" to AB, e.g.:

https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/members/eprovided-304038/badges/

Advertisers are

a) not seen by registered members

b) not paid unless people see an ad

So any statement or implication, that dormant members will not be shown because that would harm advertising revenue, are not based in truth or even logic ...

lol, good spot, Etch.

I will still be collecting badges even as the earth is swallowed by a giant red sun...

Ellipsis- I'm a registered member but I'm still inundated with adverts, what am I doing wrong?

-- answer removed --

That sent me scurrying to the shaallows of my profile to see my medals, alas to no avail.

Where have they gone and how can I hold my head high if I have to appear at a function unadorned like a commoner?
