I was made redundant in Oct 2006 and my leave date was the 30th Dec 2005. I received my final months pay on 16th Dec 2005 and my redundancy cheque on the day Ieft (30th Dec).

I never received any official letter of notification of my redundancy details and payment.

I have contacted the Job Seekers Plus to ensure my NI contributions will be paid however in order to register for Job Seekers Allowance they said I need to let them know the date that I was paid up until. Is this date the 30th Dec or if my redundancy cheque includes a couple of months salary will it be the end Feb 06? As I mentioned I have not got anything to say how much or how my redundancy package was calculated.

I don't want to say the wrong date incase I miss out on any support or on the other hand may get payments I am not entitled to. I have never claimed any benefits so not sure what date they will want. Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks!

If your leave date was 31/12 you should have been paid up to that date. Presumably your 16/12 pay covered the whole of December. If it did not, you need to take it up with your ex-employer as you have been underpaid.

Redundancy payments are not pay, so your JSA form should show 31/12 if you were paid up to that date. But you will probably have to give the Job Centre details of your redundancy pay.

You should have been given written details of how your redundancy pay was arrived at. It seems that at present you have no means of knowing whether you have been given what you are legally entitled to. You should ask your ex-employer for this info.

Write to the Payroll department of your former employer asking for a letter setting out the exact details of your redundancy payment, how it was calculated. Explain that you require this for claiming benefit.
The situation regarding JSA depends on whether you worked out your notice period or not. Since you were declared redundant in October 2005 but didn't leave until December it sounds like you did. In which case the Job Centre should regard you as unemployed from 1 January 2006. It is quite common for a person to be made redundant and to be asked to leave very quickly, in which case part of the severance payment is actually for pay in lieu of notice. Then you can't claim JSA until the end of the notice period.
