We have known her for 35 years, a good neighbour who we liked.  We helped each other over the years and stopped for a natter but rarely visited each other socially.

What would be an appropriate amount?

I would say £50.  In your situation it's about what I would spend on flowers for her.

Is the donation for a particular charity?

Presumably is a donation to a recognised charity?

If you think it's a good cause donate whatever you think is appropriate in respect of you finances - £50 ?

IF money is tight £1/year for all the years you have known her.  Otherwise what Naomi has said.

British Heart Foundation.  We thought £50 but are out of touch so you've been a great help.

Thanks all

£30 for neighbours, £50 for good friends or relatives.
