Should Section 21 Evictions Be Banned?

I'm in two minds, on the one hand it's harsh to boot someone out for no reason other than wanting the property back. On the other I can understand that landlords are not all gazillionaires and they need to have control of their own property. Also the regs have been such over the last decade or so that many landlords are selling up so it will undoubtedly reduce the amount of property available for renting.

Whatever happens re the rules it needs to be possible to return possession without anyone needing to be at fault. That should be obvious to all. Naturally there needs to be sufficient time to allow tenants to relocate themselves.
And no, not all arrangements are for a specific period. Plenty of open ended arrangements made.
at one time, when my MIL was in residential care we considered renting out her semi- detached property to help pay her care home fees. Eventually we decided to sell it as renting seeemed like too much hassle, I am sure we were not alone in coming to this decision. Sadly renting now seems to be the job for the big boys and I am not sure that is to the benefit to the market
It seems that SKS is just gonna 'do it' - repeal s.21 and let the courts sort out the chaos.
it will require ( Landlords) to put in new contracts with a clause to review the rent. 95% of contracts in Manch are 'run on' ( give a year and then let it flap in the breexe )so all that will have to change
and..... any extra expense wil be passed onto the tenant as higher rent
so as usual we will have to wait and see
