I Had A Phone Call From My Dental Surgery This Morning...

It got me thinking about things dental.  When was the last time you saw anyone with a gold tooth?

Did they come in, and then out of fashion?

Little to do with fashion. Gold was the best material for certain dental "jobs" way back...but many newer (and cheaper!) alternatives are available.

The NHS still offers gold crowns

I tend to associate them with less than savoury, flashy criminal types. Not the sort of thing to appeal to most.

Only time I seem to get a call from them is to move an appointment further into the future.

This is a surgery just refurbished after being closed for months.  It was nicely done up but they had no dentist.

It seems they've found one or two.

My gold crown, which was a back tooth all but one, top right, I didn't have to pay because youngest was under two. The Dentist reminded me how expensive they were and would last forever. 😃

I have a gold crown bottom back left. Not normally visible much.

Had it for several years. Dentist said it's the most durable option.

I don't know if new materials have come on to the market but at one time a gold crown was thinner and more durable than any other type of crown, so less tooth had to be lost.  An NHS gold crown is no more expensive than any other type of NHS crown.

I can't get to see my dentist. I phoned for an appointment two weeks ago and they refused saying I hadn't been in for 3 years, so tough titty mate. All they're interested in is making money, ripping people off. They don't care about your dental health, just how much money you've got.

10C, you'll have to find another dentist if your old one won't re-register you.  This might be helpful

Thanks Barry. I entered my postcode and it gave four results for dentists in this town. I've already been to them and they all said they were full up and not taking any more NHS patients but I could register as a private patient. I said, "Well, you can't be full up then if I can register". They wouldn't budge. So, at the moment, I aint got a dentist and I need treatment that I can't afford. It's £40 just to open my gob for an examination. What about the Cost of Living Crisis? 😒

That's not good. Contact your local Integrated Care Board, they should be able to get you registered

Barry, I went on the Integrated Care Board website. There are no NHS dentists available in this area. It gives advice on caring for your teeth, the same as your mother did when you was 5 years old, just in case you've forgotten. The facts are that unless you're pregnant or on low income benefits, you're contributing to that nice Audi in the dentists car park - in a painful way!

try the one on Droylsden Rd., they will see you in a few days ( BUT you have to pay )
