Personally, if he can prove that he has paid all payments then the vehicle is his. Many people have cars in their partners name for insurance purposes although some companies will allow the insurance and reg. docs to be in separate names, it can cause problems if there is a claim.
Is it HP or a loan??
HP - neither of you own the vehicle until the final payment is made.
Loan will not be secured on the vehicle, and so has no tie.
You are not the owner - merely the keeper. But then again, you do not have the liability of the loan payments either.
Having said that, you are under no obligation to give him the vehicle until he asks for it - even then, if you want to argue ownership, he would have to take it to court for an order (and that could take a while)
Good luck and sorry to hear about your troubles.

Scrumpy - check those docs because the reference to the vehicle may just have been sited as the purpose for the loan - they want to know something. This does not mean that the loan is secured on the vehicle. I hope it all works out for you, but glad you're away from the violence - nobody should have to put up with that.

no one has a bill as it ison a loan. the car wont be any ones until the loan is paisd off. I have paid the repayments each month by cheque. I realise that the car will go but in the mean time I will keep it until he stops paying for it. If they reposses it then so be it. he got violent with myself and my daughter so he can wait for the car.
