Why is the Financial Times Share Index abbreviated to FTSE or even the Footsie? Financial Times Share Endex? I don't think so! It should be FTSI shouldn't it?

Financial Times Stock Exchange?
The question mark after Jocasta's answer suggests that it might be a guess but that doesn't stop it from being correct!

The FTSE Group is now an independendent company but it was founded as a joint venture between the Financial Times and the Stock Exchange - hence the name.

Give Jocasta a gold star!
