Charity Tax

Would you support a charity tax deducted automatically from your salary and used purely for good causes. If so, how much would be acceptable or would you have concerns that it would be missappropriated ?

On the flip side do you feel that you pay enough tax already and that some of the money collected should be used for charity purposes. If so, where would you reduce the budget to pay for this, defence ?

I think it should be people's personal choice to give money to charity.

A lot of employers operate such a scheme already, so lots of people do this. I believe they get automatic tax relief and a choice in where the money goes.

So what is your problem? In what way do you want to change it?

dzug, I don't have a problem with this type of giving to charity.

Neither have I mentioned one way or another if I personally feel that it is a good idea or not.

I was however asking for peoples views on the subject and a tax implies that it is not optional.

Support a tax? No.

Support the option to donate to a charity of my specification? Yes.

Some companies already do this but be careful - often the 'donation' is via a middle-person/organisation & the charity don't get as much of your donation as you want them to.
