Misrepresentation on ebay

My son has bought and sold a few cars on ebay, and to date has found it trouble free. He is very proud of his good feedback score to the extent that he is scrupulous to a fault when it comes to making accurate descriptions of cars he is selling. he bought a car recently which was described as having had a cambelt change. When he went to pick up the car he asked for evidence that the belt had been changed, the man showed him a note next to a stamp in the log book saying 'cambelt changed' When he put the car in for a service they said the belt did not look recent, so he rang the garage who stamped the book, and they were able to tell him that the work had not been done at all. At least not by them. Anyone could have made the note next to the stamp in the book. Does my lad have a case against the seller? A new belt change costs hundreds.

You could report this problem to ebay uk themselves and they could look into the transaction. If the car was bought with a credit card, the credit card company can take back the money after you complete a short form the post to you?

Put it down to experience. I'd suggest when buying cars you take along someone with mechanical experience who knows what to look for in terms of bogus service claims.

Its misrepresentation, deception, possibly fraud. Follow what jason says, even try the police, or try a Court small claims case to get back the cost of a new cambelt if confident you have enough evidence for a judge to decide in your favour.
