I learnt a simple trick a good few years ago. If you can't aford it, don't buy it! you'd be surprised just how much money you could save by employing this little tactic. I suspect however much money you earn, you'll still never have enough!

gammaray: I suspect you've never had to pay a load of bills while struggling to get by on a very low or minimum wage.

That type of assumption tends to come from someone who is comfortably well off (or smug).

On the contrary beamer. If you are on a very low wage then you shouldn't run up bills you can't afford.

beccac, have you thought about taking a second job? Maybe some cash in hand bar work to avoid the high tax on a second income? Or for a really short term measure you could take all your old and unnecessary stuff to a car boot sale or sell it on ebay??

When younger (and skint) I got a part time job in my local pub. I worked 2 or 3 evenings a week. I also worked full time 9-5, but working in the pub was completely different and so I didn't feel as though I was working all the time. I paid off my credit card bill in no time just by using the wages from the pub to pay it off (and not using it either!) and all my tips went into a money box and I paid the phone bill with that!
