Grandparent "secret" bank accounts

We are convinced that when my grandmother died a few years ago she had some bank accounts that we don't know about? a friend of hers says she definitely had one with a particular bank but we never had any book or account number. Is there any other way of finding out? My father is the only child so i presume any legal blah would pass to him?

You could ask at a few local banks whether they have an account under the name of so and so. I'm not sure how you would go about proving that the money is your father's now though. Perhaps seek legal advice once you've found out which bank the money is in?

If you know which bank it is, it's easy. Just ask them. To claim the money (in fact probably even to ask the question) you will need to produce a copy of the probate document, if obtained, or the death certificate, and fill in some forms..

Hi Mikaltemple,

It might be an idea to ask the person that holds the power of attorney over your Grandmothers estate to obtain a copy of her credit file as any outstanding accounts may show up on this report.
