Hope someone can help my local shop was took over last week and when my old mum went round there to pay her tv license card (�5.00) the new owner says that she has to pay and extra 50p on top to use the paypoint facility this cant be right can it ?? im sure i read somewere that another shop was doing this and it was illegal any one know Thanks in advance.

It is perfectly legal - they can charge whatever they like.

Perhaps your mum can find a cheaper alternative.
Although I can't see it on paypoint's site, the person making the payment should not pay extra for the service. If you drop an e-mail to [email protected] to ask about it and name the shop whlie you're at it they may do something about it.
On the BBC's press office site it says

"PayPoint

There are just under 15,000 PayPoint outlets (14,891) which will be able to operate the new TV Licensing services from 2 May, rising to 17,000 in 2007. ..

(I've cut out the boring stuff)

...The service is provided free of charge to the consumer"
