Selling an endownment policy

As part of our divorce settlement myself and my ex have to sell our endownment policy now that standard life has done the shares. My ex has been looking at selling but has found out we can't sell the policy we have to surrender it back to standard life for some reason. Doe's anyone know why this is the case..?

Is it a unit linked policy? These aren't saleable as there are no future bonuses to attract a purchaser.

If not I'd suggest you verify the information carefully - there could be a misunderstanding somewhere.
