I will be moving house in the next couple of months (depending on when my current place sells!) and was wondering if any of you knew roughly how much it costs for a removal lorry? Does it depend on amount of stuff, or distance between houses? I'll be moving a distance of about 18 miles.

thanks!

if you get something like pickford s and you get them to pack your stuff for you, you would be looking about 2000 pounds i think. Do you have a small place? You could either rent a 7.5 tonne truck or hire a "man with a van"
I've moved six times and each time ive promised myself removal men... and each time not just had enough money. Still, there is always next time!

Hi Kazza, I have a 2 bed flat, so all my stuff would certainly fit into one large van / lorry. I'm happy to pack all my own stuff up to save some costs though.
well best look around for a local firm say on yell.com If you get a quote by the hour it can work out not too bad if it is only 18 miles.
Removals companies have this quoting business now down to a fine art and they are very used to people phoning up for a quote. They will probably want to come out and see how much stuff you've got and whether the access is easy. 2000 is OTT - should be about 800 if you do the packing of small stuff into boxes they will provide you with.
I have been getting quotes all day as we are moving soon - they all quote by the hour, the best quote I got was 55 an hour incl VAT. And they charge 1 each for packing boxes. I was advised to allow a full working day, but we are moving a house full of stuff. This is in Yorkshire though, probably more expensive darn sarf.
