Why was Mary Qn of Scotts killed
In a moment of rambling ponderment I was just wondering about this. Someone told me that Mary Qn of Scotts should have been the rightful queenie of England. If so who are the real royal family and where are they know?
They could be landed gentry I suppose but they could be living in Glasgow running the local fish and chip shop.
Maybe Haggis & Tatties would now be the national dish and Runrig would be embelished upon the ten pound note.

... and here here are some Scotts ...
Read John Guys excellent book ."My Heart is my Own".
Mary came to the throne because all the other male lines of the royal house had died out before the death of Mary's father King James V of Scotland. In the eyes of the catholics Elizabeth was illegitimate .Under normal laws of succession she was next in line because Elizabeth was childless.
The Act of Settlement which was not passed until 1701but Henry VIII's last will and testament stopped the Stuarts from ascending the throne in England.
Also a lot to do with the Treaty of Edinburgh which Mary refused to ratify.

Some amusing and interesting stuff,
I will get that book as over the last few years i have really got into Scottish history.
Here is a funny little story ( well its not funny at all really but just one of those spooky things that happen) that is behind my interest in Scots history.
Many years ago (about 15 to be exact) I decided to just go to Scotland as i had always dreamed of going there. I spent about three months just bussing around, staying in all sorts of places and hostels. But when I went to Perth and Stirling I had the strangest thing happen. I instantly knew my way round and I felt really tied to the places and if I could have stayed in Perth I would have. All very odd but thats what happened.
When I got home I forgot about this until I started to research my family name and my ancestry.
I found out my great great grandparents came from Scotland and one side from Perth and the others Stirling.
Does this mean we inherit deep memories of our ancestory and where they lived.

Mary Queen of Scots family fought for the throne so they were not really the true royal family!
Due to all the wars for power/monarchy, who truley is the right royal family? Is the family Celt? Saxon? Norman? as our royal family at the mo is a germanic-greek type of blend. Who knows maybe you are the true heir to the throne?

royal families have always intermarried, so rival claimants to the throne have usually been quite closely related; both, generally, would come from the 'royal family' though from different branches (eg Lancaster and York during the wars of the Roses). Even in 1066, Edward the Confessor and William the Conqueror were cousins of some sort. Mary of Scotland and Elizabeth of England likewise were related, and as Mary's son succeeded Elizabeth, the answer to your question is: the real royal family is the one on the throne now; it wouldn't have made the slightest difference to James I if his own mother, instead of Elizabeth, had been on the throne before him.
Likewise, the 'German' family now on the throne is also closely related too all the kings back to Alfred the Great and before.

this is to 'in a pickle'. hello. you mentioned the present royal family is descended directly and indirectly from james the 1st. this is not true. james the second was expelled from england and we invited the duke of orange (in holland) to be king and he subsequently defeated james in battle to secure his new throne. james was a stuart of scottish/french descent. every king or queen since has been a saxe-coberg of german descent and the two houses never crossed. therefre directlyor indirectly there is no connection from the stuarts to the prestent royal family.
