Can anyone please tell me what benefits are available for
someone who is living alone and self employed when in receipt of a doctors sicknote.
Is is possible to claim sickpay, and if so is it a set amount, also is there any benefit available to help with the cost of rent etc.,
Any help would be much appreciated.

Assuming you've been paying your NI, you can get Statutory Sick pay, which is a set amount.
I am in receipt of Statutory sick Pay and the standard amount is 70.05 although I don't have any help with rent etc as I live with my father
Sorry can't help further

Self-employed people cannot get statutory sick pay - it is only for employees. But if you have the correct NI contribution record you can claim incapacity benefit.

You can also claim income support while sick, housing benefit (to help with rent) and council tax benefit. All depend on your income and amount of savings.
