IOver the past few months I have been buying my phone credit from Boots and paying with my credit card, yet none of my purchases have been debited yet! Some as far as april! Has anyone had this happen to them? Also, how far down the line are they entitled to take the money out? Its not fair is it? What if my account limit goes over because they decide to take the money out at an appropriate time?
I suspect it's going to someone else's credit card and they haven't noticed yet.
They are entitled to take the money for quite a while, possibly a year or more - you need to take account of how much could be charged when calculating your spending.
dzug has given you perfectly good advice, they are entitled to take their money for up to a year or so. I don't think anyone could tell you any better to be honest, it's the most likely sceanrio and after all it's your credit card and phone transactions, if YOU don't know how is anyone else supposed to. It's an unanswerable question, obviously just a **** up which they may or may not realise they have made.
of course there is an answer to my question-there must be a legal answer. I could go to my bank and ask someone that is qualified to answer that. I thought that someone on here had experienced the same and knew what the legality of the situation was.
The legality of the situation is ..... BOOTS CAN persure you for upto six years for any debt - outstanding. Be it an error on your part or your banks - As far as the bank is concerned ask them if it is outstanding on the payments system. If they say no go back to Boots and ask them for transaction reference numbers for all the transactions in question. - After the provide you with this - go to your bank and follow it up their end.
I would ask your bank or your mobile phone company. Boots most likely will be unable to help as the shop assistants follow simple procedures pressing buttons on a till and don't see the processing behind it.
Why don't you just save the money in your account and not spend it .Then if they ask for it they can take it, you won't go over drawn and will have had the benifit of the interest .
If they don't take it, after 6 years you should have a nice little nest egg and should be able to afford to go to charm school.
