Last week in France my wife dropped our digital camera. When I rang my Contents Insurance (not had a claim for over 20 years) they asked if I had travel insurance, and if so ring them. When I rang my travel insurance, (never had a claim)they asked of I had Contents insurance. My question is, can I claim from both insurers since I pay premiums to both , providing I am not asking for more than I paid for the camera. Looking for advice. Thanks RAS
I checked both my policies and it seems that my contents covers things while they are under my control and the travel policy covers things while they are out of my possession, ie. in the hold of the plane, etc.
If it helps, i dropped my camera on holidays earlier this year and was able to claim for it through my travel insurance (I was insured through direct-travel.co.uk / AXA)
You can claim on your travel insurance and they will then in turn claim on your household insurer. Because you have cover in both places, one company will handle the claim and then they share the costs between them.
