I always do that and have found that Budget have been the cheapest for the last 2 years. Never had to claim though so not sure what the customer service is like!
I found my home insurance on money supermarket as well! I went with a company called Liverpool Victoria and my premium went down from 60 a month to 12!!!
As you might know, Martin Lewis is used by several BBC consumer programmes (including Radio 2's Jeremy Vine show and Radio 4's Money Box) to advise listeners as to how they can save money. He's also had his own Channel 4 series, so his website is probably worth checking out. Here's the page where he outlines his plan for cutting the cost of home insurance: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewn ews.cgi?newsid1101119998,66754,
I just got a quote for a renewal on my house and contents policies. I rung them up, and asked them if that was the best they could do before I started ringing round and on the net. I immediatley got through to another department, who offered me 15 off 1 quote, and 30 off the other. Its worth a try.
