charged for going over my o/d limit
3 Answers
I went over my o/d limit by 500 and the bank has charged me 180
The bank did not notify me when I went over my limit only went it was over and it reached 500 then my card was refused in the shop.
I rang my bank and asked them why they did not stop my card when it went over my limit and they said
1) customers should keep a check on their account and I said yes but because my card as being accepted in the shops I assumed I was within my limit.
they said they give customers time to get back to their limit thats why they don`t tell them they have gone over.
I said they should have told me.
180 is a lot of money to lose to the bank. Is it possible to dispute this has I should have been notified earlier about being over my limit and my card should have been stopped?
Thanks will be very grateful for any feedback.

Is that one charge or a series of charges?
How long were you overdrawn and by how much?
Unfortunately, the bank is right about you keeping an eye on your account. I have to admit, I do keep a note of how much I have coming out and how much is in there. 500 is quite a lot of money to assume you have.

this has happened to me, it will be a charge of 30 - 40 quid for every dirct debit that has come out.
If you have never had any charges dropped before i would go into your branch and explain that 180 is a lot of money that you cant afford and they should reduce/reinburst the charge as a good will gest, my bank did, however if you have charges re inburst to you before dont bother.
