DIY Will and Testement
7 Answers
Can anyone tell me what these DIY Last Will And Testemen packs are like? Either the CD version or the paper version.
I have booked an appointment to see a solicitor to have my will written up. I am thinking about doing it the cheap way as my will would not be complicated.

Just make sure it is witnessed and signed by two people (they don't have to read it, just see you sign it) and kept in a place where it will be found.
The shortest legal will was three words long - 'all to Ida' (Ida being his wife). :)

Its realy quite inpressive. For use in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland.

DIY is fine but I was concerned that it could be risky if you do get it wrong.
There are companies out there who specialise in WIlls and are far cheaper than solicitors (but are still regulated/qualified). I got mine and the Mrs' Wills done for 75 - not that much dearer than DIY, and they do it all!!

Whilst I have nothing against home made wills, I must say that in my experience the ones that go wrong are home made ones. OK, so if it is simple "I leave everything to my wife, Jane", there is not much that can go wrong with that - but it is so easy to make a **** up which could result in partial intestacy (that is part of your estate undistributed) or inconsistent provisions which may lead to a dispute (and thus legal costs) later on. Whilst I can understand a lot of people's objections to using a bank or solicitor to draw up their will largely because of the inconvenience and expense at least id anything goes wrong and there are disappointed beneficiaries, the professional indemnity insurance should pay up!
