Your tax paying child benefits for poles
15 Answers
Do you realise your tax is being used to pay child benefit to poles living here, WITH A WIFE AND CHILDREN STILL IN POLAND.
And because the family are split up they go higher up the housing list in front of British people.
Dont believe me. Well here is an append from a forum where council workers discuss benefits claims.
Quote:
Polish worker in this country - working - wife & two children in Poland. He has applied for and got Child benefit for the children as they are dependent upon him, even though resident elsewhere. Child benefit helpline confirms this is quite correct. I have to admit that I've never come across this before, but we don't have that many EEC workers.
However, our Housing department think this may cause them to have to place his application for housing on the priority list, as the family are split at present and she and the children are in unsecure accomedation.

Makes you proud to be British doesn't it (NOT)

I don't have a problem with this, it's my tax too, it makes no odds to me if the man who works for me, is British, Polish, Iraqi whatever. He's not going to want to be without his family, and he's trying to make a better life for them. Why does it matter to you SO, where someone is born? Is every white person of long standing British heritage so flaming great? Why so so small minded? These people will integrate into our society and contribute to it in a postive way and WE NEED THEM. I'm not British, but yeah it's one of the things this country actually does do that's right.
Not only do they claim child benefit but they also can claim child tax credit for children living in Poland. Because the British employer is getting away with paying very low wages it's the tax payer who pays the extra
Not only that but the British are being made redundant so they are forced to claim Unemplotment Benefit [unemployment at record levels] .
NOX 1] It is impossible to purchase a home abroad if you are like me living on Incapacity Benefit.
2} I don't expect to live long enough to see the prices level out.
3] I personally wouldn't buy in these countries as I find it wrong to push the house prices up so far that they are out of reach of their own residents.
So for all you younger contributers remember the pension pot is rapidly being eroded

Buy a house on the coast in Estonia (I think...I need to check details here), you'll be QUIDS IN in less than five years.
Nox is absolutely correct. Property prices in Eastern europe are set to go through the roof in the next five years. If they get our benefits, WE'LL reap the rewards of deregulation of the expanded European housing market.
And with a house in Estonia, Lithuania or Latvia, you can vote in the Eurovision Song Contest for a country that stands a ruddy god chance of winning.
It's all good.

sp1814 are Estonian and the other eastern european wages also going to go through the roof? , I don't think so, therefore the locals won't be able to buy their own homes, then what are you going to do with your investments, let them out for a rent that doen't pay the mortgage?.
The locals with any sense will leave for cheaper areas and leave the ex-pats to their own devices.
Who says property prices will go through the roof ? the estate agents?

What'll happen is the same as what happened in Spain and Portugal. We wouldn't be buying homes that already exist - rather they would be holiday apartments, specifically built for foreign investment.
We'd buy these properties in the local currency (thereby increasing the value of the Estonian Kroon). We'd be buying local produce and services out there, which would benefit the local economy...and we'd all have a chance to learn Estonian...which'll help back in England when dealing with builders and staff at Yo Sushi.
Y'see...silver linings all over the place.
(Yes, the currency in Estonia really is the 'Kroon').
