If Royal Mail is a private company why does the closure of post offices concern the government?

It is wholly owned by the Government;

Because it is paying a subsidy (running out in a year or so) to keep some of them open.
most governmet owned bodies, things like the post office are being deregulated. i have already noticed that some of mail is delivered by TNT, knew it would happen as soon as they got their feet on the ground. everyone wants a piece of everything.

different industries are seeing these changes, the telecoms providers have been deregulated, we see there are handfuls of names to select and choose from, telco, ntl, tesco etc.

its a change that is gonna destabalise the economy, its splitting everything up into small pieces, more choice i guess, gives us an opportunity to shop around etc.

more choice, less stability in the services. how reliable will the new, smaller, competing companies be?? who knows.
