small business ideas?

Me and my partner have bought a house in the north of england [chesire], he is at uni and we have to cover a shortfall on the mortgage , we have been thinking of ways to cover this, any ideas re small scale businesses? We have leafleted the local area offering a laundry service but as of yet not much feedback, any ideas?

i dont mean to sound funny but why dont you get a part time job? i say this as most small/medium or large busineses have start up costs? and lots of busineses dont actualy make money in the first 2 years anyway, and thats if they survive?

part time jobs and their hours are difficult for us as I have to care for our disabled son and my partnr is at university, entailing night study which leaves one day off which alternates each week, thus something small scale that we could run from home, or at least control our hours, that's what we were thinking.

I think that ebay is not a bad idea for part-time income whilst at home.
