vat?
5 Answers
does anyone know anything about vat,i have a hairdressers shop and all the staff rent a chair, they are all individually registered with the revenue as a bussiness in their own right,i also have signed contracts from all the stylists stating they only give me rental money and that they are registered with the revenue as a business themselves.all they do is trade from under my roof, thing is all their turnover together would put me over the vat threshold, surely it must be what they give me in rental for their chairs is what my turnover is,they also buy their own stock.if for instance each chairs turnover exceeded the vat cut off then we would all be vat registered under the one roof, that cant be right can it?

They don't need to be VAT registered unless they go over the turnover limit. They are no different to many taxi drivers who are self employed and pay a radio rent to the taxi operator and use their own cars. They work their own hours, use their own "tools" and work their own hours so they are not employees of yours either.
