is road tax needed on an unadopted road?
the estate i live on has been and is still under a dispute between the developers and the council about the sites drainage, as such the council have refused to adopt the land.I am selling a car at the moment and as such am not going to bother taxing it as it is not used( i now have a compnay car so dont need it), my question is if a viewer comes to see it amd i breaking any road tax laws if i took him for a test drive on the unadopted roads?

A car does not have to be taxed if it is not being kept or used on a public road which is defined as a road repairable at public expense. This would not include unadopted / private roads.

well i know as a resident on the estate that the council refuse to maintain the road, they wont even grit in winter as they dont own the roads, the roads have not been tarmaced becuase of the dispute between the developers and the council so the concrete road we have at moment is breaking up so i could argue the point that public funds are not being used for maintaining the roads.
