It means that you go to the cashier at the bank, hand the cheque over to the cashier and you will get the value thereof in cash. If it is a substantial amount, ID might be needed.

We do it for wages, but having said that ,we have used the same bank for years!

If it is your cheque then that is how you draw money out of your account at the bank counter.
