A contact of mine has recently switched from Tiscali dial up to BT Broadband. Within hours of signing up for BT broadband, Tiscali switched off his dial-up service because he had signed with another supplier.

Is this common practice in the industry and is it ethical?

I think you're mistaken.

I can't see how Tiscali would have even known. Was it contract of pay-as-you-go? And anyway, why would he care about not having dial-up when he has broadband?
