how do you take a screen shot?

can you tell me how to take a screen shot of a dvd/mpg playing on my desktop? When i try the print screen thing everything except the dvd/mpg image shows...

not technically minded really so i'm not sure what you mean.. but i'm trying to get an image off either windows mediaplayer on my pc or iDVD on my mac...

I don't think you can get a screen shot image from media player or other players, but you can from some video editing software like virtualdub, which is free: http://www.virtualdub.org/

Power DVD has a screen shot function which saves the image as a bitmap.

Press the print screen button on your keyboard, then open any graphics software (even Paint will do) and use Paste. You'll get an image of the screen, which you can crop and save in whatever image formats you have available with your software.

Forgot to say, if you have something like Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop, there should be a capture option. This allows you to capture just the window you want, or just a specific area.
