Bank problem
we live in the channel islands and have been paying our
Mortgage off over the last few years.
We do not bank with them but all the money paid has been on official bank cheques from our bank. we are now down to approx 15,000 the mortgage lender has now refused our cheques and said they require bank statements to prove where the money is coming from.
i dont think we should have to supply this information.
we earn 60,000 per year and there is just the two of us.
how do we stand with this?we have nothing to hide but feel this is sour grapes because the mortgage is finished off 15 years early.

However, dzug is absolutely correct that in order to prevent money laundering banks are required to demonstrate a 'trail' of the money - from a legitimate source into your 'current account' and then out again. The bank you hold your 'current account' will also be keeping an eye out as to from where the money is coming in the first place..........
As you are a fine upstanding citizen with nothing to hide, you doubtless will have nothing to fear..........apart from a further erosion of civil liberties with another strata of faceless pen-pushers having access to your private details.

Thanks jackthehat.
0ur bank where the funds come from, have never asked us for any clarification of where the money originates from because it is obviously from wages and savings.
It is the principle of the 3 meetings with the Mortgage Lender whilst trying to get a settlement figure that we have had so far and the questions that i object to. Anyhow we have relented and taken in the bank statements etc as it is the only way they will accept the final payment.
