Thank you scoobydooby, that was very interesting. What I neglected to mention though was that my boss is self employed and that I am his only staff. I earn a pathetic 5.50 per hour and he refuses to pay me for the three hours that I would be prepared to work on a bank holiday. I realise that I'm arguing about a pitiful 16.50 but it's the principle, I think there should be a law requiring employers to pay staff for bank holidays.

Thanks bednobs, just why did you bother responding with that rather unhelpful answer?
what possible helpful answer could i have given to your "question"?
I could ask you why did you bother making a post just to moan that you dont like the conditions of your job
Why not keep to the original post?

I guess you don't understand how to answer a question helpfully, so why did you even bother wasting your time on my little rant if you're not interested?
Don't worry miffy - there are plenty of Ab'ers who can answer sensibly and have so much knowledge to offer (I'm not one of them sadly but I do know a bit about employment law).

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can really do other than speak with your boss and explain the laws regarding part-time staff being treated the same as full-time. Tell him that you know it doesn't apply to you, as he doesn't have full-time staff, but you are a loyal employee and plan to stay working for him for the forseeable future and would he consider coming to some arrangement so that you don't feel disadvantaged through working for him rather than a larger company employing more staff. Obviously, this depends on the kind of working relationship you have and it may not work - but at least you would have tried!

Good luck :o)
i might be able to answer it if
a)it was a question or
b) if it hadnt already been answered for you in another post by the brilliant scoobydoby!
