The Financial Services Authority produces a booklet about 'basic' bank accounts. The table, on pages 6 & 7 shows the grounds that each bank considers when deciding whether to refuse an application to open an account. 'Undischarged bankrupt' appears alongside most of them but not with these accounts:

Barclays Cash Card Account

Cooperative Cashminder

Nationwide Flex Cash Card

I recently opened a Barclays Cash Card Account and I don't recall any questions relating to bankruptcy. Details of what the account offers are here:
http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/br ccontrol?task=articlesocial&value=3315&site=pf s
(Although its not mentioned there, you can withdraw money from any Post Office, as well as Barclays, Woolwich & Link cash machines).

Hoping this helps.

The Halifax also have an account called an Easycash Account. You do not get a chequebook/overdraft facility etc, but you do get a debit card, internet access & you can use it to have monies paid in by bacs etc & standing orders, direct debits. Only downfalls are it takes roughly up to 6 weeks to open it and cheques take 10 days to clear.
I have an account with The Co-Op after going bankrupt. They also give you an Electron card so make life a whole load easier.

Thanks very much for your advice.
