Hi I have just been made bankrupt. "Open a new bank account" the O.R. said.....easier said than done. All I need is a basic bank account, cashpoint card and direct debits. There must be an up to date list of banks you can use, where are my wages going to go each month?? The O.R. does not seem to be very helpful. Thanks.
I have just come through bankruptcy myself so I know how you feel. You will not be able to open a basic bank account with any bank you own money to. Providing you don't owe Nationwide any money I would recommend them as I found it was very simple. You will need adequate proof of ID. You can have your salary paid in direct debits etc with their flex account including limited internet banking. You will not get a switch card or a cheque book of course. I have also heard good things about the Natwest basic account. Do not touch HSBC.
Thanks for your replies. I did try Nat West, but they made me feel 2 inches high, they contridicted what they told me to bring down as id/bank statements etc, I was in pieces when I left them, that was Gosport Branch. When they talked to me everybody in the branch could hear what they were saying, there was no confidentiality at all.
I will give Nationwide and A & L a go though, thanks.
