Advice needed re: overcharged for phone bill

I signed up to a service could 24-7 Football that is run jointly by The Sun and Sky.

It supplies video clips of goals from football matches. There is a �5 per month subscription fee but according to the small print there are no data costs for downloading clips. However, I have been charged �40+ for only downloading a few clips.

There are no contact details on their site http://www.24-7football.co.uk/ and any attempt I've made to get a phone number from The Sun or Sky has been ignored.

I have contacted O2 but was told that I have to take it up with The Sun or Sky.

As I can't get in contact with them I don't know what to do! I'm now stuck with a �90 phone bill and don't know where to go from here.

Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!

The service is provided by Sky (or British Sky Broadcasting Ltd in full). According to the terms and conditions for O2 customers:

Sky is not responsible for your mobile phone or the mobile network which are provided by O2. O2 will charge you for the data services you use to access the Service. There are no data charges for downloading the content on the Service but you may be charged browsing costs for accessing the 24-7 Football site in accordance with your tariff plan. Sky is not responsible for these data services which are provided to you under your contract with O2.

Could be that you thought you were downloading clips, whereas you were actually watching them online (ie. browsing). In which case, you haven't been charged by Sky but by O2.

O2 should be able to supply you with dates and times of internet access and the costs for you to double check.

Thanks for the reply, but i've been charged for (off the top of my head) about 10mb of data and the clips were downloaded and saved to my phone.

I know I havent been charged by Sky, but it states that O2 shouldnt have charged me for the download. However they have and now they dont seem to want to do anything about it.

So it would appear I'm stuck with a huge bill.
Ofcom - the regulatory body for communications may be able to assist/point you in the right direction?

Thank you Beads, I'll take a look at that.
Also Cacciotti - generally speaking (reputable) companies shouldn't like it when regulatory bodies get involved if there is a complaint etc as it's negative for them so it's in their interests to clear it up quicker.

Also, if you believe the advertisment was misleading to consumers the advertising standards authority can be contacted (they have the powers to make companies alter the wording of advertisements).

If you've got details of the charges on your O2 bill, query the charges with Sky Customer Services on 0870 609 2839.

Might be a good idea to cancel your subscription through Customer Services to stop further charges being added to your account.

I'll give Sky a call at lunch. Thing is, it only says on the bill its for wap downloads and doesnt say what it actually is I downloaded. Hope that isn't a problem.

Have cancelled it now, can't afford this every month!
