is there any way to chase a cheque? my bank are saying they cannot but there has to be a way all i need is an address or telephone number of the company

The firm you mention "Sustainable Property Developments Ltd." are listed by Companies House as be registered at 37 Abbey Road, Smethwick, West Midlands B67 5RA. (cannot find telephone number). A google search would make it seem probable that it may be payment for a book titled "Sustainable Property Developments" which is a guide to making a property "green" and is priced at �27.50 - does that ring a bell?
