Don't rush in to it. Take your time to understand how the system works. Make sure you understand the system.
Buy a few items first. Start selling low value goods, just to build up your feedback and get a feel for things.
Don't underestimate postage costs - weight the item with the packaging, rather than guess.

I have bought from ebay for a few years now and recently started to sell a few things. I agree that it is better to start with a few smaller things and build up gradually - take good photos of your things first and load these on to your PC then it is a relatively simple process. You can usually get a good idea of the prices to ask and postage from what other people charge for similar items, but as Ethel says, it is best to check yourself and be comfortable with what you are charging. As a buyer, there is nothing more annoying than people trying to rip you off with the postage.
Also, make you you spell your item correctly - there are bargains to be had by checking for mis-spelled items as they will not necessarily come up when someone does a search. You want to maximise your viewers.
