My wife left me about two years ago and i have been paying off her credit card for this time, there is still 4700 outstanding on the card.

Can a bank chase a debt to another country for payment, as she lives in Ireland and i dont want to keep paying her bill.

Don't think they can to be honest. Is the debt totally in your wifes name or was it a joint account? If the later you are both equaly "responsible" for the debt.
Hi Liltom,

If the card is in your estranged wife's sole name, and you have no party to it at all........then stop paying it!! you are being way to generous by paying off her debt.

I believe that the bank/debt collectors can chase you wherever you may be living. The country doesnt matter. Finding her may pose a problem..unless of course you accidently provide the bank with her address and telephone number. If they were to be able to confirm where she lives, then they will pursue her.

Hi wo wo and Prince.
Wish it was as simple as all that.
It was my fault she left and the credit card is in only her name.
I dont really want her getting in any more trouble as she went of with a guy who cleaned her out badly.
So might just keep paying bill.
But thanks for info.
