What can they do?
7 Answers
Left the UK approx 5 years ago to move to Ireland, leaving behind a 2000 debt with one of the banks.
Heard nothing until this week. The debt has been sold on to a collection company.
Do they have any legal jurisdiction in Ireland?

Thanks to people like you who just bu@@er off from their responsibilities, I have to pay more when i want to borrow money. They can still give you a ccj in your absence, making it impossible for you to get good credit/mortgage/loans in the future
If you contacted them they would probably make easy installments for you and allow you to avoid a court judgement

I agree with bednobs. Bad debtors cause small companies to close down, and large companies to weight their goods and services to recover the losses.
It all ends up costing ME money.
What part of Ireland are you in? In Northern Ireland definitely yes. Is ROI, probably, as this website shows:

Ah well, responses but no answers - just what I needed.
If I could pay I would. My business failed because of bad debts and I managed to get out before I lost everything.
As far as I am concerned I paid the banks' interest rates for long enough so they can go hang.
Just asking for advice not a lecture on how someone else's problems may have some ambiguous minor affect on themselves.
