Hi Bonzo,
For a start, I think that it is unlikely that you would be able to register with the Financial Services Authority, which would rule out a specialist or senior role within the Banking or Insurance sector - and also rule out being a financial adviser! I think that anything where you had access to other peoples money would also be difficult. This is on the premise that not being able to handle your own finances increases the risk of fraud or theft to get you out of financial trouble. Not necessarily true, but the increased risk is there.

IVAs or declaring yourself bankrupt are not always the easy way out, however difficult it is, it is much better to do a deal with your creditors and repay the cash.

An employer is less likely to be concerned about a bad credit history if it can be shown that you took responsibility and are paying or have repaid your debts.
I would have thought that banking, insurance, legal, Police, accountancy, Estate agents and other financial services professions would have a difficulty in taking someone into their ranks with an IVA.
There is no chance of getting a job in a Bank or any lending subsidiary with an IVA or even a CCJ. The Banks are red hot on this now and use outside agencies to vet potential employees.
Also if you extend a period of employment to disguise the fact that you were longer in a particular job they will find out and will not employ you.
