Dog nuetering
5 Answers
Would anyone know how soon a dog will lose interest in a hot bitch after he is nuetered? does it happen pretty much straight away? or does it take some time? (quite alot depends on the answer and obviously I will ask the vet but it would be handy to have an idea today) cheers!

When we had Jack neutered, we were told the hormones could take between 3 and 6 months after castration to subside in his body. He is certainly not a frisky dog, although he wasn't too "horny" before the op either! But he doesn't pay much attention to girls in heat ("hot bitches" lol!), and I believe this is the case with most male dogs after neutering.
It takes about three weeks before the physical effects of the castration take place, i.e. until then there may still be the odd 'sperm' in the system and he should be kept away from bitches in season, but it can take several months for the mental effect to kick in especially if he is particularly randy as this then becomes learned behaviour round bitches.
I had my Borderline Collie castrated 2 years ago and my youngest bitch was in season just last month the Collie was horrendous around her!! good job we didn't have many visitors for that 3 weeks I can tell you! he wasn't like it beforehand so he obviously didn't read all the info that states the 6 month to calm down thing, my bitch is being spayed next month thank goodness, I can't wait, or I'll go completely gray haired if I don't tear my hair out first!! Ha Ha!
Sorry to put a dampener on the other answers. but best you know that this can happen, though it isn't the norm.

well well, the dog got nuetered and went to stay with his foster parents (till he goes to his new home on Nov 10th)and lo and behold he didn't show any interest in the bitch that he was absolutely rampant for just 5 days before! isn't that amazing how fast the nuetering took effect! I suppose it could have been something to do with him feeling really groggy from the anaesethic he'd had earlier? it could have even been that his ball bags (though now empty) were sore and swollen? poor boy!
