cooling off period

i got a phone call from a sales person at phones 4 u offering me a free upgrade on my handset and a 18 month extension to my contract i recieved the goods and i am now not happy with having another 18 month contract and the new phone so when i phoned they said there is no cooling off period your stuck with it i thought there was a cooling off period with anything i bought under the distance selling regulations i just think they are lieing to me so i keep the contract

anyway, for services the cooloing of period is 7 days from when you agrees, and for products the cooling ff period is 7 days from when you recieved the goods. I think a phne and contract is a mixture of the two (the phone being the product and the contract being the service) so you could probably successfully argue 7 days from when you recieved the phone. however, you must notify them in writing, not by phone
