When does a debit card payment get debited from your account? Instantly?, Overnight?, Next day????

It depends on who the recipient is and what sort of system they have for claiming the money. When you use your debit card, your bank will put that amount of money into 'reserve' for the recipient to claim. At this point, the transaction doesn't show on your account but your balance is X amount less for you to withdrawl. The recipient is issued with a transaction number to confirm that funds are available and waiting for collection. However, if the recipient doesn't claim within a certain time (approx. 5 days), the money is released back to your account for your use. This doesn't, however, prevent the recipient from still claiming the money, so you need to be aware of what has and hasn't come out of your account.
