Can I bypass the XP opening account page

My main computer has a hard drive ( 250 GB capacity )
partitioned into drives C, D, E, F and G.

The computer is split into 2 accounts, ie one for my wife and one for myself.

When the computer reaches the Windows XP opening
screen with the 2 accounts shown, it asks " To begin click your user name ". When you click on the appropriate accounts user name a box for that accounts password opens alongside it. As soon as I press a key to enter the password the cursor freezes and I cannot get any further.

Each account has a password but one cannot get that far as the cursor will not move.

I have tried starting in safe mode, but because I have set up the computer with accounts, the computer still opens on the account opening page and I cannot do anything because of the cursor freezing.

Can somebody who knows a lot more than I do, help me ?

Is it possible to bypass the XP opening accounts screen, I wish I had never set up the computer with multi accounts, I thought at the time that this facility within XP would be a great step forward, but if I can't get around this problem I don't know what I am going to do.

Any help in this matter would be much appreciated, I'm sure theres a bright spark out there who must know the answer ?

Is there anything in the Bios that can be altered so that I do not have to enter via the XP account screen.

No -the BIOS knows nothing of Windows (after all, you could load an entirely different operating system, and you would still need and use the BIOS).

Why not boot from the CD and perform a repair install.

Thanks rojash, I'm not sure if I'm doing what you said correctly.

I put the XP cd disk in and it started to do a chdsk on my harddrive and sorted out some orphaned files it found it then returned to the XP opening screen again and wanted me to select an account and enter the relevant password, naturally the system stopped at this point with the cursor frozen as before ( if I ever sort this problem out I am going to stop using this account/password facility ).
My bios is set to boot as follows :-

1. Drive A ( floppy )
2. Harddrive
3. CD

Should I change the bios to the following , to force my computer to boot from the XP program master disk.
i.e :-

1. Drive A ( floppy ) ------ Disable
2. Harddrive --------------- Disable
3. CD

Any advice would be appreciated.

Change the order to
1: CD
2: HD
3: Fd

Check to see if there is a setting "Boot other devices" or similar; some BIOSs require you to enable that

Reboot the machine (it may then offer you an option "press a key to boot CD" or the opposite - take whatever action indicated to ensure that it boots from the CD and not the harddisk).

It should then go straight into the Windows Install process. The idea is that you are going to install Windows over the op of the existing installation.

Sorry _ should have made it clear PUT THE CD IN THE DRIVE and then REBOOT the machine.
