Charges on home

Hi, 6 years ago I had a severe stroke and was hospitalised for a few months. I didnt have payment protection on 2 accounts one with Halifax Credit card and one with HSBC. Like a fool I let them go and didnt pay them because I had more to worry about and have recently found out whilst applying for a loan secured on my home.. I was told that my home had 2 charges on by 2 collection agencies... The halifax is over �9000 and HSBC Is �4500. Is there any way of getting these off my home apart from paying the full amount back eg paying by installment does anybody have any advice on this.
