6 Answers
I recently applied for a credit card to get the 0% for 13 months, I transfered the money over from my existing card to the new card. It showed up then on the same day was debited back out again and hasn't been put back on, this was 2 weeks ago.
What should i do. Legally where do i stand

You are expected to put them right by informing them - usually by spending your money on expensive calls to 0870 numbers.
So don't do that.
Simply write a letter notifying the company of what happened, keep a copy, and post the original, with a proof of posting, to the card company. Also make a claim in the letter for 35.00 for the cost of the paper, envelope, and stamp and your time (equivalent to what the bank would charge for writing to you).
You will then have done your legal duty. Await the outcome. Chances are the bank will lose the letter on one of their huge piles of letters.
If they ever take you to court, you can make a counter-claim in the small-claims court for the 35.00 plus interest.

To Breton,
Many of the errors in online payments/transfers occur because account holders make a mistake- eg enetr wrong account number. If you receive a windfall from a member of public who makes a mistake you have no entitlement to the money. I'm just pointing out that the protection applies to everyone not just the banks
